How trafficking works in practice.

Drug trafficking in Victoria is an offence under the Drugs Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981. A person traffics in a drug of dependence if they sell, exchange, agree to sell, offer for sale, or have in their possession with intent to sell the drug. The quantity of the drug affects the severity of the charge. Trafficking in a traffickable quantity carries a higher maximum penalty than simple trafficking; trafficking in a large commercial quantity carries the most serious penalties of all, including mandatory minimum terms in some circumstances. Trafficking charges are indictable and are committed to the County Court in serious matters.
